Jose Lima's a pretty terrible pitcher, but you've gotta give the guy credit for that champagne stunt. Hell, I wanted to pop open a bottle of the bubbly after Doogie got the last out. As much as I was "pulling" for the Royals to get swept this weekend and catch the '88 Orioles, the latter stages of the game were like those of a division-clinching win.

Let's shoot for the series victory in about 45 minutes. I think this has to give the Royals a lot of confidence. I tell you what Mike MacDougal has to be up there with the best closers in the MLB.

Doogie might be having a good year, but in no way is he one of the premier closers in baseball. I still don't really trust him to turn his ability into dependable production, so I think we might see him traded this winter.

Bad news in from the Royals official website.

"He wants me back so we're negotiating a contract," Stairs said.

"We do have some interest," Baird said. "He's done a quality job. We've used him more than we anticipated when we originally signed him. He's done a solid job on the field as well as in the clubhouse."

I'm siding with Kevin -- Mac still has plenty of control issues, and before he can even be a closer, and not just the guy who they let close, he has to fix them.

That being said, many of his numbers are at a career-high level for him, or they are very close to his 2003 All-Star-by-default numbers, which weren't too bad.

Hits, walks. Cut those two numbers down (Mac has a 1.41 WHIP - too high for a closer) and we have something...of course, he's already 28, so time is running out.
